TikTok publicly rolled out GMV Max ad campaigns a few weeks ago and the results have been incredible (our clients are averaging between 2x and 10x ROI):

These ad campaigns are incredibly effective because TikTok is using their ad algorithm to show all your content to buyers that are actually āinterestedā, not the typical window shopper.
Effectively, they are using the power of contentā¦. similarly to Google.

The TRUE power of TikTok is their Affiliate programā¦.. if you are on TikTok Shop you have access to 170,000 TikTok Shop Affiliatesā¦.. imagine if these affiliates could choose earn off both platformsā¦.. simultaneously.
TikTok is essentially a āproduct discoveryā platform and hence, there is a ton of spill-over traffic from TikTok onto Amazon (look at Brand Analytics, the top searches are products going viral on TikTok).
The affiliates create content; we boost it using GMV Max ads and the buyer is ācookiedāā¦ā¦ doesnāt make a difference where they buy (TikTok Shop or Amazon), the affiliate gets their commission.

WHY I DONāT THINK IT WILL WORK

We have created around 300-400 TikTok-Amazon ad campaigns over the past 2 years and learnt one thingā¦ā¦. AMAZON DO NOT SHARE DATA.
I know these campaigns performed incredibly well, but Amazon Attribution reports only a handful of sales.

It is near impossible to establish an ROI as Amazon do not share the details. The best method to see what effect TikTok is having on your Amazon listing is to check your sales metricsā¦ā¦ ācos Amazon Attribution cannot be trusted.
The lack of transparency is a problem as you are sending tons of TikTok traffic to your Amazon listing with no way to optimise the traffic.
We all know Amazon does not play fairā¦ā¦ I doubt they will with TikTok as both platforms have data the other needs.
We need a conversion metric for Amazon-TikTok campaignsā¦.. like a pixel.
Remember the Shopify and Amazon integration?
I doubt itā¦. very few brands use this integrationā¦.. but it was a big deal when it was announced.
TikTok users are lazy and donāt like ads
In order for this to work, the TikTok user will need to link their Amazon account and TikTok profile (this small effort may be too much)
This means they will see more adsā¦ā¦ users already complain about the TikTok Shop adsā¦. they donāt want to see more ads
Relying on these 2 platforms to play fair and create a solution for sellers sounds too good to be trueā¦ā¦ I donāt think it will work.

The announcement was a few days ago and I have not seen anything yet.
TikTok is evolving at a fast rateā¦.. much faster than Amazon.
I expect announcements will trickle in over the next few weeks.
WE ARE EXCITED š
But we are not āholding our breathā

We are nervous because this announcement could change the face of eCommerce.
But only if both platforms focus on solutions for the buyer and sellerā¦. not their own pockets.
