35M views on TikTok…. what were the Amazon sales?

How does virality effect your Amazon sales?

‘Cos we all want to go viral…

But what are the Amazon sales?

And more importantly…… what is the long term result?

Everyone wants to know….. so let’s jump in…

Here are the stats:

  • Brand: Sprout Pencils (pencils that can be planted… I am a fan 😉)

  • Amazon Storefront

  • Date of post: 25th Feb ‘23

  • 4.3M likes

  • 12.5K comments

  • 98.5K shares

  • 287.1K saves

  • 10 seconds long

  • Brand Analytics

    • January - Search Frequency Rank 498,746

    • February - Search Frequency Rank 64,543 (the lower the better)

  • The video is a masterclass in content creation…. simple, but effective

DISCLAIMER: I know nothing about Sprout other than this video. I have never worked with them, but saw this product and had to investigate

As all their products are similar, let’s analyse the whole brand:

Sales across the whole brand (not much 😞)

If we analyse their main product:

An average of 10 sales per day before and after the post with over 150 units sold when TikTok video was posted

Basically:

  • They had over 35 million views and had their best sales day when the TikTok post went viral

  • They have a few other posts (350K - 1M views) before this

What they could have done better:

  • Why didn’t they use Attribution Links

    • I always moan about Attribution Links never working, but they DO WORK.

    • Just not with TikTok Ads 🤬 , if there is an inbetween page (like Linktree), the Attribution links will work perfectly.

  • Their Linktree page needs some work

    • TikTok users are lazy… seriously lazy… they see so much content that if there is any friction, they will ignore it and move on.

    • They need to make their Linktree page more engaging… images, possible discounts for bulk purchases, etc

    • Add Amazon Affiliate links… that way they get the Amazon Attribution Referral Bonus (10%) + the Amazon Affiliate payout (5%)…. this is against the rules, but I use my wife’s Affiliate Account to bypass it as the business is not linked to her….. don’t tell 😉

    • The Affiliate Report will also tell them what products their customers are buying when they buy the pencils…. Then create bundle or virtual bundle based on that data

  • Boosted their content with TikTok Ads

    • I am not sure if they are running TikTok Ads, but if not, simply boost the content

    • Then include your Amazon link in the ad and there is not need for the LinkTree page

This is what I have been saying for ages….

There is no long term effect from going viral

BUT….

Going viral is an essential part of TikTok campaigns.

Because if you post 100 videos…. at least a few will perform well.

This brand is missing out on so much… they know how to go viral and have great content….

‘Cos they are missing one key element:

ALL TIKTOK POSTS (including influencers) SHOULD BE BOOSTED WITH TIKTOK ADS

If they push it out constantly, then they will increase their daily sales.

TikTok is one of the cheapest advertising platforms…. but not for long …..

Next time someone brags about going viral…. send them this case study, because I can guarantee, “they are leaving a ton of money at the table”.

Going viral helps….. but its not the solution…..

Long term traffic is the solution…. Think Amazon Ads, it’s constant traffic, why isn’t your TikTok traffic constant?

Hope you enjoyed this and any questions or comments, let me know
